Divest East Sussex Protest

We're supporting Divest East Sussex in their campaign to divest Brighton & Hove pensions from fossil fuels!

Brighton & Hove City Council (BHCC) has repeatedly called on the East Sussex Pension Fund to stop investing in the fossil fuels, like Shell and BP, that are driving the climate crisis. But it has been given the brush off.

Brighton & Hove employees make up more than a quarter of the Fund's roughly 77,000 members - and pay over a third of annual contributions to the Fund – but have no say in the Fund's decisions, which are currently made by five East Sussex County Councillors.

On 10 February a BHCC Councillor will be at County Hall to propose that the Fund add two BHCC Councillors to this decision-making body, in order to ensure that the Fund finally makes a commitment to divest.

Join Divest East Sussex 6 – 7pm on Thursday 3 February outside Brighton Town Hall for a protest and photocall to support this proposal and send a message to East Sussex County Council: 'No pensions without representation! It's time to divest Brighton & Hove's pensions from fossil fuels'.
