Cost of living survey
Over the last 13 years our branch has witnessed, and fought against, the consequences of austerity, the decimating of grants to local government, and the spiraling cost of living on our members. The branch is currently involved in several negotiations to try to get the best pay possible for our members. It is hugely valuable to add the voices of members and local workers to these discussions, but also in our fight to get central government to stop starving local services and workers of desperately needed funding.
We are now at the point where it is estimated that over 2 million adults in the UK cannot afford to eat every day and one in three will struggle to meet the cost of living. Public Service workers; while supporting the most vulnerable in our city, and often at great personal risk; have suffered a devastating storm of stagnating and low wages, crippling rents and rising food, energy and childcare costs.
