Time to get Ballot Ready!

As a local government worker are you fed of being underpaid and undervalued?  Do you think government should value Care Workers, Teaching Assistants, Street Cleaners, Public Health Workers, Housing Officers, Library Officers the same as they do teachers, NHS staff and civil servants?

If you do then make sure you look out for your UNISON industrial action ballot paper, which should be hitting doormats in its bright purple envelope from September 4th and vote YES for strike action.  UNISON is the only union at the city council balloting its members on the national pay offer for local government and school's support workers so if you're not in a union and want to join the fight for decent pay then make sure you join UNISON by the 3 October.

With the news that other public sector workers are getting a 5.5% pay increase in line with the recommendations of their pay review bodies, it is an insult that the national employer thinks local government and schools support staff should only get £1295 this year - an average increase of just 2.5%.  Unions demanded £3000 or 10% so the employer's offer falls far short of that and that they demand that it is fully funded by government so that local councils are not plunged into further financial crisis.

Our branch has been selected as a regional priority by the national union as we have performed so well in previous ballots.  With just a few hundred more votes than in the last full industrial action ballot we could get over the line in Brighton and Hove and get the green light to take strike action to make sure the new government and national employer hear us loud and clear: LOCAL GOVERNMENT WORKERS WON'T PUT UP WITH BEING UNDERPAID AND UNDERVALUED ANY MORE!

To make sure you're ballot ready log on to My Unison and check your contact details and address are correct.  If you don't have a My Unison account it takes just seconds to set up.  If you have any questions get in touch: contact@brightonandhoveunison.org.uk, 01273 291611.
