I am sure you are all aware of just how important these services are in supporting some of the most vulnerable people in Brighton & Hove. It also means that if the proposals are agreed, large numbers of staff will be facing either redundancy or their employment moving out of the Council and into the private/voluntary sector.
UNISON, together with other concerned organisations wants to try and ensure these proposals do not get agreement and to this end, we are arranging a protest of the P&R Committee.
I appreciate that due to work commitments, some will not be able to attend but if at all possible, please come along and invite anyone else you can think of who may be able to attend. We want a big crowd so that those making these decisions can see the strength of feeling from both staff, friends, family members and the general public.
Please circulate this information to your colleagues and other interested parties. UNISON will be inviting the media to attend also.
The arrangements are that from 3.00p.m. onwards on Thursday 28th April we will gather outside of The Friends Meeting House in Ship Street, Brighton (where the committee meeting is to be held). The meeting formally begins at 4.00p.m. and is a public meeting which can be attended by anyone; however there will be limited numbers of seats.
UNISON looks forward to seeing as many of you as possible; in these extremely difficult and austere times it is really important to keep showing those making decisions that we care enough to be there and want them to listen to us, as voting members of the public as well as employees and users of these services.
