Unison condemns Labour’s pay-off to Chief Executive

Unison’s national president and its national conference have condemned Brighton & Hove Council’s Labour group’s £269,000 pay-off to its Chief Executive.
After a secret meeting last Friday the council, which is led by the Labour group, accepted the Chief Executive’s resignation and agreed a £269,000 pay-off, some of which is a pension payment.
Reporting the news to delegates at Unison’s national conference in Glasgow, national president Lucia McKeever said it was disgusting that such pay-offs were made to highly-paid senior managers, when low-paid Unison members working for local councils had been given a measley 1% pay rise this year.
Local activists have been asking what services could have been saved if the money had been put into the council’s shrinking budget instead.
