A lobby is being organized on Tuesday 9th September from 3.15p.m. outside Hove Town Hall. The Health & Wellbeing Board are meeting to make recommendations to the P&R Committee (in October) about the future of the Integrated Community Equipment Store. This is currently managed by Health but comprises of BHCC and Health employees. Health want to get rid of the service to BHCC and BHCC say they don’t want it due to the cost. This means the proposals being discussed on 9th September are around the service being TUPE’d to a private provider via tendering process with West Sussex CC.
Staff in this service have been under threat for the best part of 2 years and have worked as hard as they can to provide what is described by both Health and BHCC as an excellent service, but still want rid of it.
Together with our GMB colleagues we will be mounting (another) campaign to stop this from happening to ICES employees. They deserve our support. A deputation/lobby will be arranged for the P&R Committee in October where a decision may be made about the future of the service. However, we want as strong a lobby as we can get in this short space of time on 9th so please please circulate this to as many as you can; we need a good turnout!
Unison and GMB have written a joint letter to the Health and Wellbeing Board for them to consider at their meeting on 9th September.
